Manirul Islam is a lecturer of Accounting and Finance at the Open University Business School. He completed his PhD in Accounting and Finance at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Manirul has extensive experience teaching postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in several institutions in the UK and KSA. Before joining the Open University, he was a Lecturer of Accounting and Finance at the University of Business and Technology (UAB) and held the post of Lecturer at Taibah University and Qassim University in KSA. He taught several accounting and finance modules such as – Corporate Finance, Investment and Portfolio Management, Derivates and Risk Management, Cost Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Financial Accounting, Advance Accounting, Auditing and Assurance Services on postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in the UK and KSA.
Manirul's research interests cover the areas of auditing, financial reporting, and corporate governance. His work on topics such as internal audit function quality, audit committee quality, gender diversity, audit reporting, corporate social responsibility, and financial reporting quality has been published in international journals including - the Journal of Applied Accounting Research and the Asian Review of Accounting.
